- En décembre 2005, il commença à pratiquer le cross-linking des fibres de collagène par les rayons ultra-violet (cross linking par UV), une méthode qui permet de stabiliser la cornée.
- En juin 2006, il a lancé le Descemet Stripping and Automated Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSAEK), une technique permettant d'éviter une transplantation totale de la cornée (Kératoplastie pénétrante) chez les patients qui ne voient plus à la suite d’un œdème de cornée.

- Entre le 5 et 9 octobre 2013, le Docteur Vryghem a pris part au "XXXI ESCRS Congress" à Amsterdam. Il y a donné une formation : "Complications in Lasik: Prevention and Management" et y a suivi plusieurs conférences.
- Du 28 au 29 novembre 2013, le Docteur Vryghem a assisté au congrès "Ophthalmologica Belgica" et a réalisé, le 29 novembre, durant la session scientifique de la BSCRS sur la presbytie, une présentation sur : "FineVision Diffractive IOL" et "Corneal Inlays / Raindrop Inlays"

En mai 2003, notamment, WaveLight Laser Technologie, l’une des sociétés les plus avancées au monde en technologie laser, a sélectionné la clinique du Docteur Vryghem (Brussels Eye Doctors) en tant que « bêta-site ». Les « bêta-sites » constituent des plateformes de validation et de test des nouvelles technologies. Ils sont sélectionnés par les industriels pour leur excellente réputation.
En 2011, le Docteur Vryghem a été nommé par la firme Schwind Worldwide Ambassador et investigateur clinique pour les firmes Ziemer (laser femtoseconde) et Physiol (implants intraoculaires multifocaux).

Le Docteur Vryghem a été l’un des premiers chirurgiens au monde à utiliser le nouveau logiciel T-CAT pour les traitements guidés par topographie utiles dans les cas de retraitement difficile. Son expérience en la matière fut présentée en 2003 et 2004 à de nombreux congrès internationaux : Bruxelles, Liège, Paris, Amsterdam, Munich, Séville, San Diego (USA).
Le Docteur Vryghem a, le premier en Belgique, introduit deux nouvelles techniques de chirurgie de la cornée.
En octobre 2006, le Docteur Vryghem a pratiqué, en tant que premier chirurgien réfractif en Belgique, des interventions FemtoLASIK. Il s'agit d'un traitement LASIK qui permet d'effectuer le volet cornéen sans couteau, mais à l'aide d'un laser femtoseconde : le traitement est alors encore plus sûr et les volets encore plus fins avec une épaisseur plus prévisible.
En juin 2007, Brussels Eye Doctors est le premier cabinet de chirurgie réfractive en Belgique à avoir acheté un Laser Femtosecond de la nouvelle génération : un Ziemer LDV. Ce laser aide à traiter la correction chirurgicale des erreurs réfractives de manière plus sûre et plus prévisible.
La passion du Docteur Vryghem a donc une conséquence très bénéfique pour les patients de sa clinique : ceux-ci disposent toujours des dernières avancées technologiques pour leurs problèmes oculaires.
La preuve : récemment le Dr. Vryghem a entièrement renouvelé la plateforme laser de sa clinique en l’équipant d’un Laser Excimer de toute dernière génération : le Schwind Amaris 750S. Outre la direction de Brussels Eye Doctors, le Docteur Vryghem a assumé pendant 16 années la direction du Service d’Ophtalmologie de la Clinique Saint-Jean à Bruxelles pour ensuite déplacer ses activités chirurgicales à la Clinique du Parc Léopold où le Docteur Vryghem opère à la toute nouvelle Eye-Clinic.
Membre du Comité Directeur de la Belgian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery depuis 1988 il en fut le Vice-Président de 2009 à 2012.
Maître de stage du Service d'Ophtalmologie de l'hôpital universitaire de Louvain (KUL), le Docteur Vryghem a contribué à la formation chirurgicale de 38 ophtalmologues depuis 1993. Membre du comité de rédaction de la revue Cataract and Refractive Surgery Today Europe et de l’International Journal of keratoconus and other ectatic disorders, le Docteur Vryghem est également critique scientifique pour le Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery et le Journal of Refractive Surgery.
